[231] cases argued and determined in the court of common pleas, and other courts, in easter term, in the third year of the reign of georgb IV. memoranda. In the last vacation Robert Henry Blosset Esq., Serjeant at Law, was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Judicature in Bengal, and received the honour of knighthood. And Willingbatn Franklin Esq., Barrister at Law, was appointed one of the Judges of the Supreme Court of Judicature at Madras, and received the same honour. [232] sells v. hoare. April 29, 1822. [S. C. 7 Moore, 36.] On an application for a new trial, it appeared that a witness, who gave himself a false name at the trial, and was sworn on the gospels, was, at that time, a Jew : Held, thai the objection came too late, and that the oath, aa taken, subjected the witness to the consequences of perjury, if he had sworn falsely. Vaugban Serjt,, for the Defendant, moved for a new trial in this cause, on the ground, among others, that a person calling himself Joseph Manning, had been duly sworn on the Gospels as a Christian : whereas it bad been discovered since the trial, that his real name was Solomon Money, that he was a Jew before and at the time of the trial, and that he was still a regular attendant at the synagogue.
