Sex Discrimination (Midwives) (Specified Date) Order 1983

Made 12th December 1983

Coming into Operation 1st January 1984

Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament for forty days (computed in accordance with section 7(1) of the Statutory Instruments Act 1946) and neither House of Parliament has resolved that the Order be not made:

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by paragraph 3 of Schedule 4 to the Sex Discrimination Act 19751, and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I hereby make the following order:—

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Sex Discrimination (Midwives) (Specified Date) Order 1983 and shall come into operation on 1st January 1984.

S-2 Specified date

2. The date specified for the purposes of paragraph 3 of Schedule 4 to the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (transitional provisions for training and practice of men as midwives) shall be 1st January 1984.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order specifies the date from which men may train and practise as midwives on equal terms with women.
