CHAPTER cclvi.
An Act to enable the South Eastern Railway Company

to make new railways and other works to acquire "
additional lands to provide for the application of
capital of the South Eastern and London Chatham and
Dover Railway Companies and for other purposes.

HEREAS it is expedient that the South Eastern Eailway
Company (herein-after referred to as "the South Eastern
Company'-) should be empowered to make and maintain the
railways widenings and other works and exercise the other
powers by this Act authorised :
And whereas it is expedient that the South Eastern Company
should be authorised to acquire by compulsion or agreement
the lands herein-after described in the counties of London and
Kent:
And whereas it is expedieat that the South Eastern Company
and the London Chatham and Dover Railway Company (herein-
after referred to as " the two Companies") should be authorised
to make and carry into effect agreements with respect to the
construction of the said railways widenings and other works :
And whereas it is expedient that the managing committee
should be empowered to enter into and carry into effect agreements
with the Metropolitan District Railway Company with respect to
the several matters herein-after set forth :
And whereas plans and sections showing the lines and levels of
the railways and works authorised by this Act and plans showing
the lands by this Act authorised to be acquired and appropriated
and also books of reference containing the names of the owners
and lessees or reputed owners and lessees and of the occupiers of
the lands required or which may be taken for the purposes or
under the powers of this Act were duly deposited with the clerks
of the peace for the counties of Kent London and Surrey

1900. respectively which plans sections and books of reference are in
this Act respectively referred to as the deposited plans sections and
books of reference:
And whereas the purposes of this Act cannot be effected without
the authority of Parliament:
May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted and
be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty by and with
the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal and
Commons in this present Parliament assembled and by the authority
of the same as follows
:

title.
i# This Act may be cited as the South Eastern and London
Chatham and Dover Railway Companies Act 1900.

(relating
to tne construction of a railway) and
Part III. (relating to working agreements) of the Railways Clauses
Act 1863 are (except where expressly varied by this Act) incorporated
with and form part of this Act.

meanings are assigned by the Acts wholly or partially incorporated
herewith have the same respective meanings unless there be
something in the subject or context repugnant to such construction:
"The South Eastern Company" means the South Eastern
Railway Company;
" The Chatham Company" means the London Chatham and
Dover Railway Company;
" The two Companies " means the South Eastern Company and
the Chatham Company;
" The District Company" means the Metropolitan District
Railway Company;
" The Act of 1899" means the South Eastern and London
Chatham and Dover Railway Companies Act 1899;
" The railways " means the railways and widening3 by this Act
authorised;
"The managing committee" means the South Eastern and
Chatham Railway Companies managing committee.
Power to 4. Subject to the provisions of this Act the South Eastern
railways Company may make and the managing committee may maintain
and other in the lines and according to the levels shown on the deposited
plans and sections the railways herein-after described with all proper
stations sidings junctions approaches works and conveniences
connected therewith and may enter upon take and use such of
the lands delineated on the deposited plans and described in the

deposited books of reference as may be required for those purposes A-D-1900<
The railways and other works berein-before referred to and ~~
authorised by this Act are
In the county of Surrey
A Railway (No. 1) 1 mile 8 furlongs in length commencing in
the parish of Sanderstead by a junction with the railway
authorised by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway
(Croydon Oxted and East Gfrinstead Railways) Act 1878 at
a point 260 yards or thereabouts measured in a southerly
direction from the southern face of the bridge carrying
Sanderstead Road over the said railway at Sanderstead
Station and terminating in the parish of Ooulsdon by a
junction with the Chipstead Valley Railway of the South
Eastern Company at a point 2*25 chains or thereabouts
measured in a north-easterly direction from the centre of the
bridge carrying the London Brighton and South Coast
Railway over the said Chipstead Valley Railway :
A Railway (No. 2) 1 furlong 9'50 chains in length wholly in
the said parish of Coulsdon commencing by a junction with
Railway No. 1 at a point 3 chains or thereabouts measured
in a northerly direction from the junction of the Grodstone
and Warren Roads and terminating by a junction with the
Caterham Valley Railway of the South Eastern Company
at a point 1 furlong 3
25 chains or thereabouts measured
in a south-easterly direction from the centre of the bridge
carrying the road known as Foxley Road over the said
railway:
Provided that notwithstanding anything contained in this Act
or shown upon the deposited plans and sections the South Eastern
Company shall construct the bridge at Purley carrying the said
road from London to Grodstone of a width or span of 40 feet at
the least.
In the county of Kent
A Railway (No. 3) 1 furlong 7'65 chains in length wholly in
the parish of Orpington commencing by a junction with the
railway of the South Eastern Company at or near the
northern abutment of the bridge carrying that railway over
the public footpath leading from Earnborough to Broomhill
Common on the north side of Orpington Station and
terminating by a junction with the railway of the South
Eastern Company at or near the northern abutment of the
bridge carrying that railway over the public road leading
from Farnborough to Orpington :
