houses on approved building plans
(for London

Cot. 3).
It
was obtained either directly from the City
Engineers, Surveyors
or
Medical Officers of Health of the Local
Authorities
concerned,
or
from the published annual reports
of
these
oficers.
In
1924-8
the index
is
chained
with
an index based
on
the
total number of houses erected
in
Great Britain (Cot.
2).
The method of construction of the index is described in tbe text
(Section
111).
