INTRODUCTION
In
the
last
decade,
no
other
academic
discipline
has
experienced
such
a
phenomenal
growth
as
that
of
public
administration.
(I)
The
schools,
institutes,
centres,
and
departments
of
public
administration
and
public
affairs
have
emerged
on
most
respectable
American
campuses
asserting
the
independent
identity
of
faculty
and
students
of
this
discipline.(2)
But
in
general,
the
study,
teach-
ing,
and
research
of
international
and
comparative
public
administration
has
declined.
(3)
The
specialists
in
this
field
have
attempted
to
explain
such
lukewarm
interest
among
the
students
toward
their
subjects.(4)
This
report
will
seek
to
analyse
the
status
of
this
sub-field
in
relation
to
the
Masters
in
Public
Administration
(MPA)
and
other
similar
degree
programmes.(5)
A
number
of
specific
questions
may
be
posed
about
the
status
of
this
sub-field.
Are
courses
in
this
area
normally
offered
within
the
framework
of
MPA
programmes?
Do
the
MPA
programmes
provide
for
a
specialisation
in
this
area?
What
is·
the
enrolment
trend
in
this
field?
What
courses
are
taught
within
the
rubric
of
international
and
comparative
public
administration
today?
Who
are
some
of
the
teachers
in
this
field?
What
innovations
are
they
introducing
to
make
this
sub-field
responsive
to
the
needs
of
their
MPA
student
clientele?
This
report
will
seek
to
answer
such
questions
on
the
basis
of
an
on-going
national
survey
of
the
field.(6)
