CHAPTER lvii.
An Act to authorise the purchase of additional land for the
A.D.
1888.
tunnel authorised by the Thames Tunnel (Blackwall) Act
1887 and for other purposes. [28th June 1888.]

HEREAS by the Thames Tunnel (Blackwall) Act 1887 (herein-
49 & 50
Vict,
after called " the Act of 1887 ") the Metropolitan Board of c. cbcrii.
Works (herein-after called " the Board") were empowered to make
in the line or situation shown on the deposited plans in that Act
mentioned and according to the levels shown on the deposited
sections therein also mentioned a new means of communication
across the Eiver Thames at Blackwall comprising a tunnel or
subway under the River Thames with the roads and approaches
thereto as in that Act described:
And whereas the construction of the said tunnel in the Hne and
situation authorised by the Act of 1887 was opposed by the
occupiers of certain works and property on the south or Kent bank
of the River Thames on the ground that the works could not be
constructed in the line shown on the said plans without risk of
injury to their property:
And whereas the Board proposed in order to avoid any inter-
ference with the said property to make an alteration or deviation in
the line of the tunnel as shown on the said plans:
And whereas the Board caused to be deposited with the respective
clerks of the peace for the counties of Middlesex and Kent plans and
sections describing the line or situation and levels of the proposed
alteration and the lands or other property in or through which it
was intended to be made and a book of reference containing the
names of the owners and lessees or reputed owners and lessees and
of the occupiers of the same lands and property and describing
the same lands and property and such plans sections and book of
reference are in this Act referred to as the amended plans sections
and book of reference :
