CHAPTER clxiii.
An Act to confer further powers upon the Isle of Thanet
A.D.
1877.
Gaslight and Coke Company ; and for other purposes.

HEREAS by an Act of Parliament passed in the fifth year
of the reign of his late Majesty King George the Eourth, and
intituled " An Act for lighting with gas the towns or villages of 5 G. 4.
" Margate, Ramsgate, and Broadstairs, and places adjacent in c- xxv*
" the county of Kent," (and herein-after called "the recited
Act,") the Isle of Thanet Gaslight and Coke Company (herein-after
called "the Company ") were incorporated, and were (amongst other
things) authorised to manufacture and supply gas within the limits
by the recited Act prescribed :
And whereas by the recited Act the Company were authorised
to raise in share capital twenty thousand pounds, or if that amount
should be found insufficient, a further sum of four thousand
pounds:
And whereas the Company have raised and issued and expended
the whole of their authorised share capital, and in addition thereto
have expended out of the profits of their undertaking large sums of
money, amounting in the whole to the sum of forty-eight thousand
pounds and upwards, upon the general improvement and extension
of their undertaking, and have not up to the present time received
any return whatever from the large amount so expended :
And whereas the Company have no mortgage debt:
And whereas the Company have sold that portion of their under-
taking which is situate in Ramsgate and St. Lawrence to the
Local Board of the district of Ramsgate (herein-after called "the
Local Board ") in accordance with the provisions of the Ramsgate
Local Board Act, 1877, which portion so sold as aforesaid con-
stitutes, as nearly as can be ascertained, one half of their whole
undertaking:
And whereas it is expedient that in respect of the sum of twenty-
four thousand pounds (being one half of the said sum of forty-
eight thousand pounds) the Company should be permitted to treat
