The A78 Trunk Road (Greenock) (30mph Speed Limit and Part-Time 20mph Speed Limit) Order 2016

The Scottish Ministers make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 84(1)(a) and 124(1)(d) of, and paragraph 27 of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984( 1) and all other powers enabling them to do so.
In accordance with section 84(2)( 2) of that Act, they have given public notice of their intention to make this Order and have complied with Parts II and III of the Secretary of State's Traffic Orders (Procedure) (Scotland) Regulations 1987( 3).
Citation and commencement
1. This Order may be cited as the A78 Trunk Road (Greenock) (30mph Speed Limit and Part-Time 20mph Speed Limit) Order 2016 and comes into force on 21st March 2016.
Speed restrictions
2. No person may drive any motor vehicle at a speed exceeding:—
(a) 30 miles per hour on the length of road specified in Part 1 of the Schedule to this Order; or
(b) 20 miles per hour on the length of road specified in Part 2 of the Schedule to this Order when that particular speed limit is identified as applying to that length of road by means of the appropriate traffic sign prescribed in diagram 670 of the Traffic Signs Regulations 2002( 4).
Revocation
3. The A78 Trunk Road Greenock Schools (Part-time 20mph Speed Limit) Order 2006( 5) is revoked.
Exemption
4. No speed restriction imposed by this Order applies to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011( 6) when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.

Article 2
SPECIFIED LENGTHS OF ROAD
PART 1
1. That length of the A78 Greenock to Prestwick Trunk Road at Greenock from a point 222 metres or thereby west of the centre line of its junction with Flatterton Road to the northeast kerbline of the splitter island at the A8 Bullring Roundabout, a distance of 4.82 kilometres or thereby.
PART 2
2. That length of the A78 Greenock to Prestwick Trunk Road at Greenock from a point 158 metres or thereby west of the centre line of its junction with Gateside Avenue to a point 9 metres or thereby south of the centre line of its junction with the westbound approach of Old Inverkip Road, a distance of 372 metres or thereby.
