The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Crystal Palace) Regulations 2024

Coming into force 28June 2024

The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict the flying of unmanned aircraft in the area specified in regulation 3(1) by reason of the intended gathering there of a large number of persons in the vicinity of Crystal Palace Park, London.

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016(a).

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Crystal Palace)

Regulations 2024 and they come into force on 28th June 2024.

Interpretation

2. In regulation 3(1) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time(b).

Restricted airspace

3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), between 0800 hours on 28th June 2024 and 2300 hours on 30th

June 2024 and between 0800 hours on 5th July 2024 and 2300 hours on 7th July 2024 no

unmanned aircraft is to fly below 1,000 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by

straight lines joining successively—

(a) 512534N 0000422W,

(b) 512519N 0000346W,

(c) 512507N 0000341W,

(d) 512500N 0000359W,

(e) 512508N 0000430W,

(f) 512512N 0000442W, and

(g) 512534N 0000422W.

(2) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any unmanned aircraft flying in accordance with a

permission issued by the event Airspace Co-ordinator.

(a) S.I. 2016/765, to which there are amendments not relevant to these Regulations.

(b) Co-ordinated Universal Time (UTC) is one hour behind British Summer Time (BST).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations impose restrictions on the flying of unmanned aircraft in the vicinity of Crystal

Palace Park, London by reason of the large number of persons expected to attend music festivals

which are due to take place there between 28th June 2024 and 30th June 2024 (inclusive) and

between 5th July 2024 and 7th July 2024 (inclusive).

The Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport agree that the flying of unmanned

aircraft should be restricted in the vicinity of Crystal Palace Park during the music festivals for

reasons of public safety.
