The Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Eastbourne) Regulations 2017

The Secretary of State has decided that it is necessary in the public interest to restrict flying in the vicinity of Eastbourne, East Sussex, by reason of the intended holding of ‘Airbourne 2017’, the Eastbourne International Airshow.
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016( 1).
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Air Navigation (Restriction of Flying) (Eastbourne) Regulations 2017 and come into force on 16th August 2017.
Interpretation
2. In regulation 3(2) the times referred to are Co-ordinated Universal Time( 2).
Restricted airspace
3.—(1) Subject to paragraph (3), and during the periods specified in paragraph (2), no aircraft is to fly below 5,500 feet above mean sea level within the area bounded by straight lines joining successively the following points—
(a) 504047N 0001603E,
(b) 504619N 0002508E,
(c) 505038N 0001835E,
(d) 504506N 0000930E, and
(e) 504047N 0001603E.
(2) The periods referred to in paragraph (1) are—
(a) between 1200 hours and 1600 hours on 16th and 17th August 2017,
(b) between 1100 hours and 1600 hours on 18th August 2017, and
(c) between 1100 hours and 1700 hours on 19th and 20th August 2017.
(3) Paragraph (1) does not apply to any aircraft flying with the permission of the Eastbourne International Airshow flying display director.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations impose restrictions on flying in airspace specified in regulation 3(1) in the vicinity of Eastbourne for flying displays and associated rehearsals for ‘Airbourne 2017’, the Eastbourne International Airshow, that are scheduled to take place there on each day from 16th to 20th August 2017, inclusive. A large number of civil and military aircraft will be involved in high-energy manoeuvres during the display and associated rehearsals. The Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport agree that flying should be restricted at this location during this period for reasons of public safety.
