The Case of John Murray of Broughton

A Person attainted of treason by Act of Parliament.

Hilary, 20 Geo. II. the case of john mueray op beoughton (A person attainted of treason by Act of Parliament.) Pleas? before our Lord the King at Westminster of Hilary term in the twentieth year of the reign oi our Sovereign Lerd George the second, by the grace of God of Grreat Britain, France and Ireland King, defender of the faith. Amongst the pleas of the King Roll England. Our present Sovereign Lord the King hath transmitted to his beloved and faitlful Sir William. Lee, knight, and his associates, justices of our said present Sovereign Lord the King, assigned to hold pleas before the King himself, his writ of m&timus, together with a writ directed to the clerk of hia Parliaments, and the return made to the same; and also the record of a certain Act of Parliament of our gaid pieaent Sovereigm Lord the King made at Westminster closed in these words To oar beloved and faithful Sir William Lee, knight, and others his associates, our justices assigned to [48j hold pleas before us, greeting ò We send you inclosed in these presents the tenour of a certain writ of eerttoran directed to our beloved Ashley Cowper, esqi clerk of our Parliaments, together with the return indorsed upon the back of the said writ. and also the tenour of a certain Act whereof mention is made in the same writ, katitled, An Act to attaint Alexander Earl of Kelhe [the persons intended to be attainted are here named, among whom Mr Murray is one] oi high treason, if tley shall not render themselves to one oi his Majesty's justices oi the peace on or before the twelfth day of July in the year of our Lord 1746, and submit to juitice. The tenour of which said Act we for certain reasons have caused * This justice was refused to Sir Thomas Armstrong in a like case. Vide 3 Mod. 47, and 3 St. Tri. 895. FOST. 49. THE CASE OF JOHN MURBAY OF BBOTJGHTON 25 to be brought before us into our Chancery ; and we do hereby command you, that having inspected the tenour of the said Act, you farther cause to be done thereon that which of right, and according to the law and custom of England, you shall see fit to be done Witness ourself at Westminster the tenth day of February in the twentieth year of our reign.
