The Education (School Improvement Partner) (England) Regulations 2007

In exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 5(5) and 181 of the Education and Inspections Act 20061, the Secretary of State for Education and Skills makes the following Regulations:

S-1 Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (School Improvement Partner) (England) Regulations 2007 and come into force on 8th February 2007.

S-2 Interpretation

2. In these Regulations—

“school” in relation to a local education authority means a maintained school which is maintained by the local education authority; and

“school improvement partner” means a person appointed pursuant to section 5 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006.

3. Any person who is engaged or employed by a local education authority before 8th February 2007 is to be treated as having been appointed as a school improvement partner where—

(a) he is appointed, in relation to any school or schools, for the purposes of providing advice to the governing body and head teacher of the school with a view to improving standards at the school; and

(b) he is for the time being accredited for those purposes by the Secretary of State, or the National College for School Leadership2.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations provide for persons employed or engaged by local education authorities before 8 February 2007 to be treated as having been appointed as a school improvement partner for the purpose of section 5 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006. Regulation 3 sets out the circumstances in which a person so employed or engaged will be treated as having been appointed as a school improvement partner under section 5. This includes accreditation by the Secretary of State, or by the National College for School Leadership whom the Secretary of State has authorised to accredit school improvement partners.
