Their Lordships make the following Order of Council in exercise of the powers conferred by article 1(4) of the Medical Profession (Miscellaneous Amendments) Order 20081.

Citation

1. This Order may be cited as the Medical Profession (Miscellaneous Amendments) Order 2008 (Commencement No. 1) Order of Council 2009.

Appointed day

2. 16th March 2009 is the day appointed for the coming into force of article 4 of, and Schedule 2 to, the Medical Profession (Miscellaneous Amendments) Order 2008.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force, on 16th March 2009, the provisions of the Medical Profession (Miscellaneous Amendments) Order 2008 that relate to providing additional grounds for eligibility on which certain medical practitioners will be able rely in order to have their names included in the Specialist Register, which is held by the General Medical Council. The new scheme will apply to medical practitioners who were consultants in the National Health Service or the armed forces before 1st January 1997 and whose names are not yet included in that Register.
