The Police (Minimum Age for Appointment) Regulations 2006

Coming into force 19th September 2006
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 50 and 51 of the Police Act 19961.
In accordance with section 63(3)2of that Act he has supplied a draft of regulations 1 and 3 to the Police Advisory Board for England and Wales and has taken into consideration their representations.
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Police (Minimum Age for Appointment) Regulations 2006 and shall come into force on 19th September 2006.
Amendment of the Special Constables Regulations 1965
2. In regulation 1(c) of the Special Constables Regulations 19653(qualifications for appointment) for “18 ½ years” substitute “18 years”.
Amendment of the Police Regulations 2003
3. In regulation 10(1)(c) of the Police Regulations 2003 4(qualifications for appointment to a police force) for “18 years 6 months” substitute “18 years”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Special Constables Regulations 1965 and the Police Regulations 2003 to lower from 18 years and 6 months to 18 years the age that a candidate for appointment as a special or regular constable must have attained.
