The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas it is proposed that there shall be established for the Turks and Caicos Islands a Legislative Council (in this Order referred to as " the proposed Council "), eleven members of which shall be elected from eleven constituencies, and that there shall be established new qualifications for registration as voters:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 5 of the West Indies Act 1962(a), or otherwise in Her Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Turks and Caicos Islands (Electoral Provisions) Order 1976 and shall come into operation on 17th February 1976.

Electoral Regulations

2.—(1) The Governor, acting in his discretion, may by regulation published in the Gazette make provision, for the purposes of the election of members of the proposed Council, for—

(a) the division of the Turks and Caicos Islands into constituencies ;

(b) the qualifications and registration of voters ; and

(c) any matter that appears to him to be incidental thereto or consequential thereon.

(2) Any such regulations may come into force at any time after the coming into operation of this Order.
