1. INTRODUCTION
During the period covered by this report, the Inter-American Court on Human Rights
(hereinaer the ‘Court’) issued severa l decisions on merits, including: Tristan Donoso
vs Panama; Rios et al. vs Venezuela; Perozo et al. vs Venezuela; Kawas Fer nandez vs
Honduras; Reveron Trujillo vs Venezuela; Acevedo Buendía et al. (‘Discharged and
Retired Employees of the O ce of the Comptroller’) vs Pe ru; E scher et al. vs Brazi l;
Anzualdo Castro vs Per u; and Dacosta Cadogan vs Barbado s. Also, the Court adopted
interpretation judgements clarif ying aspec ts of previous decisions on the merits in
Ticona Estrada et al. vs Boliv ia and Valle Jaramillo et al. vs Colombi a.
e present report will analyse the Court ’s decisions in Tristan Donoso vs Panama
and Escher et al. vs Braz il, regarding the protection of the right to privacy, honour and
reputation. Also, the report wi ll cover the C ourt’s judgements in Reveron Trujillo vs
Venezuela and Peroz o et a l. vs Venezuela, concerning the destitution of judges and
the right to freedom of expres sion in the context of a polarised political situation i n
Venezuela.
