The Veterinary Surgeons Qualifications (EEC Recognition) (Spanish and Portuguese Qualifications) Order 1987

The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas, by the Act concerning the conditions of accession of the Kingdom of Spain and the Portuguese Republic and the adjustments to the Treaties establishing the European Coal and Steel Community, the European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community1adaptation was made to the European Communities Council Directive concerning the mutual recognition of diplomas, certificates and other evidence of formal qualifications in veterinary medicine2to add to that Directive particulars of qualifications awarded in the Kingdom of Spain and the Portuguese Republic:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred upon Her by section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 19723is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

1. This Order may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons Qualifications (EEC Recognition) (Spanish and Portuguese Qualifications) Order 1987 and shall come into force on 16th April 1987.

2. In Schedule 1A to the Veterinary Surgeons Act 19664(recognised European qualifications in veterinary surgery) after the entry relating to The Netherlands there shall be added the following—

“PortugalCarta de curso de licenciatura em medicina veterinaria (diploma conferring official recognition of completion of studies in veterinary medicine) awarded by a University.

SpainTitulo de Licenciado en Veterinaria (University degree in veterinary medicine) awarded by the Ministry for Education and Science”.
