issued its eleventh advisory

this time on

interpretation

AInternational Child
Labour
Seminar
Amsterdam, 28 - 31 August 1990
On
the
eve
of
the World Summit for Children in New York, an Inter-
national Seminar
on
Child
Labour
was held between 28
and
31 August
1990
at
the
Free
University
of
Amsterdam. This seminar was organized by
Defence for Children International, the Netherlands section
thereof
(DCI-
N)
and
the
International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse
and
Neglect (ISPCAN).
The
seminar
was attended by participants from all over the world, most
of
them
representing either governmental or non-governmental organi-
zations.
Child labour:
Child
labour
can be defined as
work
being
done
by children in violation
of
the rules of the Minimum Age Convention No. 138 established by the
International
Labour
Organisation.
This
phenomenon
appears in many forms ranging from house and farm
labour
within
the
family (which
does
not
rule
out
exploitation) to the
pure
and
most extreme forms
of
child exploitation in
numerous
industries
(bonded
labour)
and
organized prostitution.
