Unique tapestry presented
to
Metropolitan Police Commissioner
by Constable's
wife
A
CONSTABLE'S
wife has pre sented aunique tapestry of the
Metropolitan Police coat of
arm
s - which
took
her 500 hours to
make - to Commissi
oner
Sir David McNee.
And Sir Dav id is so del ighted with the two foot square tapestry he
is going to hang it in his private suite at New Scotland Yard .
Mrs. Hazel Ware - whose husband Da vid has been with the force
for the past 22 years - decided she would like to contributea piece of
her own work to
commemorate
the 150th anniversary of the
Metropolitan Police.
She seized on the idea of a
tapestr
yafter spotting a copy of the
armorial bearings on the sleeve of a record of the Metropolitan
Police Band - in which her husband plays the trombone.
Although Mrs . Ware , who lives at Northolt, had only ever
completed two tapestries before, her imagination was fired
and
with
the assistance of the Ro yal School of Needlework who helped with
drawing and design , embarked on the
mammoth
project.
