The US Department of Justice (DOJ) made a second request for information on the planned USD1.5bn (EUR1.1bn) acquisition of TV stations operator Belo Corp (NYSE:BLC) by media and marketing group Gannett Co Inc (NYSE:GCI), the pair said.

- AMGEN COULD MOVE TO OFFER LESS FOR ONYX - REPORT
After US Onyx Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ONXX) failed to provide all the trial information requested on Onyxâ[euro](tm) blood-cancer treatment Kyprolis, suitor Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) is looking to reduce the USD130.00 (EUR97.30) a share takeover price proposed earlier in August for the biopharmaceutical firm.

US medical-grade hydration products developer Drip Drop Inc said it had raised USD3m (EUR2.25m) in a Series A-1 financing round.

- DARLING INTL TO BUY MAPLE LEAF FOOD'S ROTHSAY IN USD611M DEAL
US food waste recycling firm Darling International Inc (NYSE:DAR) said it had agreed to buy for CAD645m (USD611m/EUR457m) in cash Rothsay, the animal by-products recycling business of Canada-based Maple Leaf Foods Inc (TSE:MFI).

- AFFERRO CALLS SHAREHOLDER MEETING ON PROPOSED TAKEOVER BY IMIC
Canadian iron ore explorer Afferro Mining Inc (LON:AAAM; CVE:AFF) said it had called a special meeting of shareholders and optionholders to discuss its planned takeover by UK investment group International Mining and Infrastructure Corporation Plc (LON:IMIC) following approval by a Canadian court.

- NORTH CHANNEL BANK BUYS NORTHSTAR LIFE SERVICES IN CALIFORNIA
German North Channel Bank GmbH & Co KG unveiled the acquisition of US NorthStar Life Services LLC, based in California, without disclosing the financial terms of the deal.

- UNIBREW COMPLETES BUY OF HARTWALL
Danish beverages group Royal Unibrew A/S (CPH:RBREW) said it had closed the acquisition of Finnish brewer Oy Hartwall Ab, a unit of Dutch brewer Heineken NV (AMS:HEIA), after meeting all conditions to the deal.

- QUALCOMM TO SELL OMNITRACS TO VISTA EQUITY PARTNERS IN USD800M DEAL
US digital communications products and services major Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) said it had agreed to divest its fleet management solutions subsidiary Omnitracs Inc to private equity firm Vista Equity Partners for some USD800m (EUR598.6m) in cash.

US alternative asset management firm The Carlyle Group LP (NASDAQ:CG) has agreed to take over Germany-based timber and sawmill specialist Klenk Holz AG.

Dutch lighting solutions maker Nordeon has agreed to acquire Hess AG (FRA:HEAG) in a deal that would help the troubled German luminaries producer keep 180 jobs.
