We've had so much rain since November that our garden is still wet underfoot. We had hoped to plant trees and shrubs this spring - any recommendations for plants that absorb water

Shrubs such as willow and alder are quite happy with wet feet so if you find your soil is consistently damp, even in summer, these would be a good choice. Birch trees are good all rounders and Betula nigra, or River Birch as its common name suggests...
