Backing for park carving that raised eyebrows

Unsurprisingly, people have compared the artwork - which has animals, leaves and trees sculpted into it - to things of a far ruder nature. And one man said that it looked like a "giant d***o"

Even BBC Radio 1's Breakfast host, Greg James, saw the likeness and he could not resist a morning giggle at the unusual carving. And he even went as far as to send a listener out to Beaumont Park to investigate the tall carving, asking her what it looked and felt like.

He told listeners that it "looks like a penis", but the listener that he had sent out to investigate said that she thought it looked like an "elongated Minion". But it would seem that her take on the carving is rare, as most people agree with Greg.

But people in Huddersfield love it. Sarah VI wrote: "Beautiful carvings on it but definitely looks like people will start rubbing it to aid fertility." And Kirsty Adams said: "The carvings are beautiful when you get close, but it really does look like a giant Willy as you approach! If they just cut the top flat it would be so much better!"

Other YorkshireLive readers took the comments section on our post about the man complaining it to share their thoughts, with many agreeing that it did indeed look "phallic".
