Barrel of fun!

The Sportsman and Magic Rock Brewery and Taproom successfully completed the Yorkshire 3 Pints Challenge on 9 April

The challenge is similar to the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge but made three times harder by carrying a barrel of beer up and down each peak.

To add to the difficulty, the teams had to contend with torrential rain throughout the event.

Ryan Robinson, assistant manager at The Sportsman, came up witj the idea as part of the pub's 15th birthday celebrations this year. Although the pub itself is 94 years old, it has been part of the Beerhouses pub family since 2009.

Robinson set a target of raising £5,000 for The Sportsman's nominated charity, Project Youth Cancer. He wanted to do something significant and somewhat crazy, and carrying casks of beer up and down mountains seemed fitting for a pub. He also teamed up with local Magic Rock Brewery for a unique challenge that involves creating three special collaboration beers named after the 'massive rocks' of Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough, and Whernside.

"These beers are available at all five Beerhouses pubs and the two Magic Rock Taprooms.

The challenge, which includes sponsorship, selling the collaboration beers, and Ryan donating all his tips, has so far raised an impressive £3,500.

"They are confident of reaching their £5,000 target soon.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, the team's spirits remained high during the challenge. Ryan spoke about the difficulty of the climb, adding: "I'd like to thank everyone who did the walk. It was HARD! The weather was quite frankly dangerous but still every single person did their part.
