The
thirtieth
series
of
Hamlyn
Lectures
was
delivered
in
March
1978
at
the
University
of
Bristol.
The
four
lectures
deal
with
the
relation
of law
to
individual
liberty
today,
the
prospect
of
introducing
a
Bill
of
Rights
in
the
United
Kingdom
on
the
lines
of
the
Amendments
to
the
United

and
the

From

pages,

This
is
an
introduction
or
a
book
of
reference
to
forecasting
methods
in
many
fields,
in
the
public
as
well
as
the
private
sector.
Part
I
defines
the
scope
of
the
book
and
describes
the
systems
approach.
Part
II
classifies
and
presents
forecasting
methods
such
as
extrapolation,
econometric,
and
segmentation
methods.
Part
III
defines
a
framework
for
the
evaluation
of
models.
Part
IV
compares
the
forecasting
methods,
examines
their
costs
and
benefits,
and
evaluates
their
relative
accuracy.
Part
V
discusses
the
trends
and
identifies
areas
where
further
research
is
needed.
The
author
includes
a
&dquo;
don’t
&dquo;
list
of
works
with
promising
titles
that
should be
of
little
interest
to
his
readers.
There
is
also
a
serious
list
of
references
which
is
well
annotated.
He
tries
to
be
funny.
Why
not,
after
all ?
But
the
fun
is
laid
on
a
bit
thick
and
becomes
irritatingly
percussive.
