perspective is largely missing, although Ka hn-Freund’s legacy is so highly esteemed.
I believe he could not have had such a substantial in uence on British labour law if
he had not come from another legal trad ition and thus adopted a strong comparative
approach (he was Professor of Comparative Law in Ox ford).
e contributions have one major point in common, and that is using Freedla nd
as a reference point. Several authors – especially Collins, Bogg, Prassl, C ountouris,
Davies, McCrudden – make an at tempt to select an idea from Freedland’s work
and undertake a critical analysis of it.  e variety of topics and the richness of the
arguments that a re presented clearly demonstrate the seminal in uence of this great
scholar on labour law.  e ubiquitous legacy of his teacher, Kahn-Freund, is also
striking in ma ny chapters.
is book not only contains excellent contributions from outstanding schola rs;
that is taken for granted when we spea k about ‘Oxford labour law’. Most valuable is
the insider information t hat the authors provide about labour law scholars in Oxford.
is insider knowledge, someti mes even jokes, make the reading of the book not only
worthwhile, but high ly entertaining.

In their volume ‘Non-Standard Employment in Post-Industrial Labour Markets. An
