Former top-flight referee Keith Hackett claimed the foul (below) was a "nailed on" red card because Kane knew what he was doing during the flashpoint

It left Gabriel in pain and needing treatment but Bayern Munich striker Kane only received a yellow card and official Glenn Nyberg gave a foul against the England captain.

Kane said: "It was strange, I'm not really sure, it was 50-50, he gave that one as a foul and I'm surprised it was a yellow card, but it is what it is. Decisions sometimes go your way."

Kane thought it was a far bigger mistake when Nyberg failed to give a penalty against the Brazil defender for picking the ball up in his penalty box after the whistle had been blown to restart play.

But Kane did sympathise with Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, his Three Lions team-mate, who went down late on under Manuel Neuer's challenge.
