Time and again last term the trainer told readers how keen he was on his team of bumper horses and how hopeful he was for them as novice hurdlers in 2023-24

And hopes are turning into reality. Favour And Fortune, Kay

Tara Tara and Masaccio have all looked promising in making winning debuts over hurdles this autumn, and there are plenty more where they came from.

Nor are novice hurdlers the only group King has to look forward to this season.

Harbour Lake and Tritonic are fine prospects for novice chases, high-class chaser Edwardstone could tackle the King George VI Chase, and Midlands Grand National winner Major Dundee is being aimed at the Grand National itself.

This stable tour hints at the exciting times ahead at Barbury Castle and you will be able to follow all the news from the yard through the season in King's exclusive column, which resumes next week.

Baby Sage 5 b m Flemensfirth - Baby Shine She won well at Warwick on her debut then probably wasn't mentally quite ready for the mares' bumper at Aintree. She came back with sore shins but that was probably immaturity. She's summered well but unfortunately unseated her rider at the first on her hurdling debut. She's schooled well since.

Betterforeveryone 6 b g Cokoriko - Lady Emily He's a fairly consistent handicap hurdler who seems to have improved again. He's been schooling well and makes his chasing debut at Warwick on Wednesday. Broomhill Road 4 b g Shirocco - Ussee He's a big, fine horse who finished second

in his first bumper but didn't learn very much as there were only five runners so I was glad we got another run into him. He's been schooling well and started over hurdles by finishing sixth at Exeter. Call Of The Wild 6 b g Fame And Glory - Glory Days I don't think he was ever quite right in himself last season when we tried him

over fences. He's come back from Martinstown looking and working well and I toyed with a return to chasing but I schooled him over hurdles and we've decided to start down that route. He could be useful and wants two and a half miles these days, especially round a sharp track. Chandlers Bay 4 b g Vadamos - Society Gal He fell on his debut at Wetherby last

autumn, came back pretty jarred up and was off quite a long time. He came from a

long way back on his final start at Plumpton and should be capable of winning over hurdles. He's summered really well.

Dancing In Brazil 4 b c Blue Bresil - Hora He's an entire who has been pleasing me in his work and his schooling. He's a lot more mature mentally now than he was last season, when he was also a little weak. He was a black-type performer in bumpers and has schooled well over hurdles. He'll start at two miles and we hope he's decent. Denburn 4 gr g Martaline - Shanon Du Berlais He couldn't have done the job any better than when winning a bumper at Market

Rasen last season. He's a lovely horse who could have another bumper run for experience before probably starting at two miles over hurdles. Deyrann De Carjac 10 b g Balko - Queyrann I was pleased enough with the old boy's seasonal comeback at Wetherby. Although he was last of the five finishers, he was beaten less than five lengths and looked as though he'd come on for the run.

Edwardstone 9 b g Kayf Tara - Nothingtoloose The Champion Chase was a rare blip, he was never travelling and nothing ever came to light afterwards. The Tingle Creek was wonderful last year but unfortunately he unseated early at Kempton next time and he had to run at Cheltenham at the end of January and it messed up his season a bit. He looks terrific now and

the plan is to start him off in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham, which will give us an idea whether he stays at two miles and tries to win another

Tingle Creek or steps up in distance for the Peterborough Chase the...
