Cats deserve credit as leaky defence plugged

Sunderland supporters aren't used to goalless draws and they have been treated to three - with two of them in successive home matches.

Mike Dodds and his players deserve a lot of credit for stopping Leeds United in their tracks on Tuesday.

It's only the second time since September that Daniel Farke's team have not scored a goal in a match at Elland Road.

Dodds contradicted himself a little bit after the game when reflecting on the remaining games.

On the one hand he said he and his team were going to try to win every game. On the other he said the aim was to go through the rest of the season undefeated.

They are two different things and while it was commendable how his men defended for long periods against Leeds, they lacked real ambition going forward.

It was interesting that skipper Luke

O'Nien went charging up to Dodds after the final whistle and hugged him in celebration. Dodds just shrugged him off. He later remarked, "We shouldn't celebrate a draw" which is quite right.

I would love to have known what was so top secret about what Dodds said to Farke after the final whistle.
