The Child Benefit (Up-Rating) Regulations 1985

Whereas a draft of the following regulations was, in accordance with the provisions of section 22(3) of the Child Benefit Act 1975(a), laid before Parliament and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, the Secretary of State for Social Services, in conjunction with the Treasury(b), and in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 5 and 24(1) of the Child Benefit Act 1975 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following regulations:—

Citation, interpretation and commencement

1. These regulations, which may be cited as the Child Benefit (Up-Rating) Regulations 1985, amend the Child Benefit and Social Security (Fixing and Adjustment of Rates) Regulations 1976(c) (hereinafter referred to as "the principal regulations") and shall come into operation on 25th November 1985.

Amendment of regulation 2 of the principal regulations

2. In regulation 2 of the principal regulations (weekly rates of child benefit)—

(a) in paragraph (1) for "£6.85" there shall be substituted "£7.00";

(b) in paragraph (2) for "£4.25" there shall be substituted "£4.55".
