Our last chronicle related the dif‌ferent activities of the IIAS and its entities up to
autumn 2010. Several months have gone by since then, but our Institute has not
been dozing in the interval. For example: in November 2010, a delegation from the
IIAS and the IASIA led by the Presidents of these two institutions, Pan Suk Kim
and Prof. Valeria Termini, as well as by the Director General of the IIAS, attended
a seminar organized in conjunction with the Chinese Academy of Governance
(CAG), in Beijing, (China). This event, which had the support of the Chinese
Society of Administrative Reform (CSOAR), also brought together the represen-
tatives of two other important organisations, namely the ASPA and the NISPAcee.
The main theme of the Conference was ‘The Governmental Response to the Global
Economic Crisis’. The second part of the seminar which took place in Nanning
(China) focused on the provincial aspect of public administration. This seminar
was an event of the highest scientif‌ic level, bringing together all the presidents and
directors-general of the chief international organizations active in the f‌ield of public
administration.
Following on statuary reforms implemented at the Congress in Bali (Indonesia)
and at a f‌irst meeting of the ‘Strategy’ Group of the Institute in Toulouse (France)
in September 2010, a second meeting of this Group was organised in Paris (France)
from 9 to 11 December 2010. At the invitation of the President of the IIAS, the
presidents of the various committees of the Institute as well as a delegation from
the Council of Administration and the General Directorate met to discuss conceiv-
able strategies for dealing with the enormous challenges we face in the domain of
public service.
From the very beginning of the New Year, our attention was focused on the
statutory meetings of EGPA in January 2011 and those of the IASIA and the IIAS
in February, all of which took place in Brussels. The various committees of the
three entities of the IIAS were especially pleased to be able to present a positive
report on the state of advancement of the reforms and the signif‌icant progress
made towards achieving transparency in the management of our institution’s
resources.
