Chronicle of the Institute
Rolet Loretan
Several decisions – most of them important – concerning the future of IIAS were
taken during the meeting of the IIAS Executive Committee meeting in March 2007,
as pointed out in the last Chronicle.
Taking decisions is one thing. Implementing them is another. The time between
the two statutory meetings of the Executive Committee (3 months) is not enough to
show spectacular progress. While I write this text, we are only a week away from the
Abu Dhabi Congress, the venue of our next Executive Committee meeting. The list of
main projects to carry out or initiate over the last three months clearly shows that the
personnel of the Directorate General in Brussels have been particularly busy:
● the preparation of the Abu Dhabi Congress and the statutory meetings that will
take place during the Congress; also
● the IASIA Annual Conference in Abu Dhabi and the statutory meetings of the
Association;
● the preparation of the EGPA Annual Conference to be held in Madrid in
September;
● revision of IIAS statutes in keeping with the decisions taken in March by the
Executive Committee;
● the drawing up of a strategic budget – an innovation, if not to say revolution;
● steps taken to find candidates likely to propose appropriate venues for the next
annual conferences of IIAS;
● the signing of contracts and the evaluation of venues planned for the 2008
Annual Conferences of EGPA and IASIA to be held, respectively, in Rotterdam
and Kampala;
● the organization of and participation in meetings of various IIAS Project Groups
in Pavia and Turin (I);
