Chronicle of the Institute – its
associations and members
Rolet Loretan
Director General of the International Institute of Administrative
Sciences
More than two years have gone by since our last Chronicle and of course a lot of
projects and events have taken place in the meantime. Listing them all would be a
tedious task, which is why we choose to mention only those that we feel, sometimes
subjectively it is true, to be the most important.
We intend to begin this chronicle by f‌irst reporting the main projects that have
animated the life of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences and its
various entities in 2015 and 2016.
Let us start by evoking the main activities of the umbrella organisation, namely
the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS). In terms of the stra-
tegic objectives of the ISA, we will mention in priority the development of the
regional groups of IIAS.
IIAS
Preparations for the creation of a new Regional Group of IIAS in the Middle East
and Northern Africa (MENAGPA) are under constant discussion. There are still
some important issues to negotiate, even if a consensus has practically been found
regarding the status and location of the Executive Secretariat. It will be necessary
to determine the terms of the act of foundation.
In February 2014, the IIAS adopted its strategic plan until 2019. The underlying
vision sees the IIAS gradually evolving towards a federation of Regional Groups,
producing and disseminating public administration research while remaining in
charge of global issues and relations with international partners. The inclusion
of the OECD, the UN, development banks and BRICS panels in the IIAS
Congresses is an example of concrete realisations performed in this framework.
In terms of communication and partnerships, several events in which the IIAS
was closely involved should be mentioned:
