CLOSE SEASONS FOR SHOOTING GAME AND DEER 1
The dates apply to the whole of Great Britain unless otherwise specified.
Section 1 2
Black game 11 December to 19 August, except in Somerset, Devon and that part of the New Forest which lies in Hampshire where it is 11 December to 31 August
Bustard or wild turkey 1 March to 31 August Grouse or red game 11 December to 11 August Partridge 1 February to 31 August Pheasant 1 February to 30 September
1In the case of all the birds and animals in ss 1 and 2, shooting on Sunday and Christmas Day is forbidden (GA 1831, s 3).
All dates are inclusive.
The close seasons are not operative in cases where the Ministry of Agriculture imposes a requirement that game be killed to prevent damage to crops, pasture, foodstuffs, livestock, trees, hedges, banks or any works on land (AA 1947, s 98(1), (2)).
