College chiefs pitch idea to extend centre opening hours

Calderdale College has applied to the council seeking permission to vary planning conditions at its Inspire Centre to allow extended opening hours and use of its floodlights at the pitch

The college says there is a lot of unmet demand from the local community to use the pitch and it is likely that, if arranged, extra slots could easily be filled.

The centre usually operates from 5pm to 9pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

It opens for ad hoc events and activities when needed beyond standard operating hours.

Under its planning conditions the centre can be operational until 8pm each day and in the summer months the centre uses the extra natural light and has bookings until 9pm on the grass and artificial sports pitch, says a supporting statement with the application.

The college's statement says: "We have done a lot of work highlighting the unmet demand of the 3G pitch and internal facilities - evidence and enquiries show if we extended our operating hours, we would be able to fill the space."
