Concern as smear test figures fall

At the end of December last year, nearly a third of women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 49 (30.4%) and a quarter of those aged 50 to 64 (24%) were not up to date with their cervical screening. This week is Cervical Screening Awareness Week, and charities are encouraging those eligible to get their tests booked

Screening coverage for those aged 25 to 49, who should be tested every three years, was 69.6% in Yorkshire at the end of December 2021. That was up from 69.5% in December 2020, but down from 72.5% in December 2019. That means of those eligible to be screened, 241,999 in this age group in Yorkshire were not up to date.
