MOBILE
PATROL CAR CARD INDEX CASE
To the Editor
of
THE
POLICE JOURNAL.
SIR,
I have much pleasure in giving you details of the above
which has been introduced in this Force for the use of the Mobile
Patrol Section.
The
outcome of this small invention came as a result of experience
of the inconvenience suffered by mobile patrol officers in carrying
police"
informations"
and"
lists of stolen cars,
etc."
when on duty.
The
lack of accommodation for any additional accessory on the
modern sports car or motor-cycle prevented the introduction of a
large route card holder or anything of a similar nature (such as is
used by trials riders as a temporary means of holding aroute card),
and the appearance of such a "
holder"
would certainly not be in
uniformity with the dash-board fittings of the car, and to say the least
would look unsightly.
As a result of experiment my clerk (P.C. Green) and
Mr.
A. Bell
(a special constable of this Force) collaborated with me in the pro-
duction of a highly polished metal case, similar to a silver cigarette
case which would provide for all the needs of a mobile patrol officer.
The
case being made for the use of five cards each having a
separate classification-Motor Vehicles (stolen); Pedal Cycles;
Travelling Criminals; Miscellaneous; Unoccupied Property, these
cards being held on metal leaves turned at the edge to hold the card
in position.
The
Mobile Patrol Card Index Case was presented before
the
Chief Constables' Association-eo-ordination of County and Borough
Forces
(No.6
District) meeting at the Home Office on 23rd May,
1935, and met with a very favourable reception. Since that time many
inquiries have been received at Reigate from other Forces eager to
adopt this case and the special cards printed to use in conjunction
with it.
The
Mobile Patrol Card Index Case has been patented by the
manufacturer-Mr.
A. Bell.
