Crowning glory for sport fans

Fans of The Crown on Westgate can now enjoy a great match day atmosphere in the heart of the town centre with bosses promising it's the best place to watch live TV sports in the town

But it faces stiff competition from other boozers with Showtime on Zetland Street, its next-door neighbour The Warehouse and Plumbers Arms on Macaulay Street all vying for that title with Wimbledon in full swing and ahead of the new football season in August.

The Crown has always had a loyal following and now boasts state-of-the-art, giant TV screens inside and out, the latest audio equipment, booths to enjoy fixtures with friends and even artificial turf to add an authentic sporting feel.

It is all part of a £250,000 investment at The Crown to bring the best of food, drink, hospitality and sport all under one roof - inside and out.

General manager Victoria Booth said: "We are so excited to be open and show off what a great place this is to watch all the sporting action now.

"If you can't be at the match in person, the next best place to be is here at The Crown where you can enjoy the game in comfort with a drink and food, friends and fans. The atmosphere is amazing.
