Getting relegated with seven games still to play offers very few positives, and the circumstances were far from ideal for anyone, but it was a sensible approach nonetheless

One of the decisions the German head coach took was to introduce a few young players to action, with two teenagers making their senior debuts for the club in the top flight.

Aaron Rowe was 18 years and six months old when he appeared against Bournemouth in March 2019, and Matty Daly was five months younger when he appeared against Watford. Both of them did well, in the circumstances.

Rowe went on to establish himself as a semi-regular under Carlos Corberan in the second half of the 2020/21 season and will be hoping for a similar level of involvement next season after an injury-hit campaign last year.

But while Daly appeared for Town as a teenager under three bosses and a caretaker (as well as being in one of Mark Hudson's matchday squads), he has never quite been able to make the jump to regular senior football at Town - two competitive appearances for Siewert, three for the Cowleys, one for Danny Schofield, and six for Corberan, the most recent of which was a five-minute cameo in February 2021.

Perhaps that chopping and changing has not been helpful. Include his loan spells, and Daly's move to Harrogate, means he will soon have appeared in games for 12 different bosses (including caretakers) since making his senior debut just over three years ago. In the meantime, fellow 21-yearolds Scott High and Jon Russell have both established themselves in the first team.
