Deadlock as play-off nerves strike

It was honours even in a nervy affair as League One's relegation play-off battle continued into the final fortnight following this goalless draw

The match was one very much framed as a 'must not lose' for the home side, with Annan playing at doomed Edinburgh City before the Binos visit the capital next week.

Stirling boss Darren Young made one change to the line-up from the defeat at Kelty last week - with talisman Dale Carrick returning to the side in place of Rudi Molotnikov.

After an even start, the visitors had the first real chance of the game, with Mark Weir in the Stirling goal sharp to beat away Alex Ferguson's 25 yard drive.

It was a game of few real openings, with both sides nervous to make a mistake and played at a frenetic pace.

Weir was called into action again when Kyle Doherty found space on the left edge of the box and fired a stinging effort towards goal which was well tipped over.

Stirling had their first chance when Josh McPake drove down the right and slid a cutback into Kieran Offord, but the St Mirren youngster's shot was acrobatically tipped over by Harry Stone.

Offord was finding plenty of space on the Stirling right and hared in behind the visiting defence from Carrick's flick on, but his tame effort was easily claimed by Stone.

Queens had the first chance of the second half, Cammy Logan firing over from 18 yards after ref Lloyd Wilson played advantage for a foul on Lewis Gibson.

Both sides were playing with a lack of confidence, with

McPake next to squander a great chance for the hosts, blasting over from 12 yards after an incisive Carrick pass.
