I, the Right Honourable Sir Jocelyn Edward Salis Simon, President of the Probate Division, with the concurrence of the Lord Chancellor and the Treasury, and in exercise of the powers vested in me by section 108(3) of the Supreme Court of Judicature (Consolidation) Act 1925(a), as amended by section 26 of the Administration of Justice Act 1965(b), do hereby make the following Order:

1.—(1) The second Schedule to the Supreme Court of Judicature (Consolidation) Act 1925 (as varied by the District Probate Registries Order 1938(c), the District Probate Registries Order 1951(d) and the District Probate Registries Order 1964(e)) shall be further varied by the substitution, for the scheme and notes therein set out, of the scheme set out in the Schedule to this Order.

(2) The Orders referred to in subparagraph (1) above are hereby revoked.

2. This Order may be cited as the District Probate Registries Order 1968 and shall come into operation on 2nd June 1969.

SCHEDULE

SCHEME FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF DISTRICT PROBATE REGISTRIES

1. A District Probate Registry shall be established at each of the following places:—

Birmingham

Brighton

Bristol

Ipswich

Leeds

Liverpool

Llandaff

Manchester

Newcastle

Nottingham

Oxford

Sheffield

Winchester.

2. Each such registry shall be under the charge of a registrar assigned thereto by the President of the Probate Division.

3. The registry established, in pursuance of this scheme, at Llandaff shall be known as the Probate Registry of Wales.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This Note is not part of the Order.)

The scheme for the establishment of District Probate Registries contained in Schedule 2 to the Supreme Court of Judicature (Consolidation) Act 1925, as modified by orders made in 1938, 1951 and 1964, provides for 16 groups of registries, each group being under a registrar. This Order substitutes 13 registries for these 16 groups...
