Evil killer admits attacking guards in North East jail

He was jailed for life with a minimum term of 36 years for the sexually-motivated killing in April 2022.

Now he has appeared at Newcastle Crown Court via a video link to Broadmoor Hospital and pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on two prison officers at Frankland Prison on May 8, 2023.

Selamaj stabbed one of the prison guards to the right thigh and right arm after he heard smashing and saw him come out of his cell with porcelain in both hands, swinging it and trying to slash him.

He was then pushed back into his cell when the victim's colleagues attended and he punched a second officer twice in the face.

Judge Stephen Earl said: "This is a case where there's a minimum sentence issue here because of his previous conviction for murder in 2022."

Turning to Selamaj, he said: "I will adjourn the case now for sentence Sabina Nessa in relation to these two matters until the 14th of June, when you will appear, as you are now, on a link for sentence."

Selamaj, 38, killed Ms Nessa in a park in Kidbrooke, south-east London in September 2021, having driven to London.

CCTV footage captured him striking the 28-year-old over the head until she was unconscious, before carrying her away, and he then strangled her, removed some of her clothes and tried to hide her body.

Selamaj, a garage worker from Eastbourne in East Sussex, travelled to London on 17 September intending to assault a random woman after he was spurned by his estranged wife, the Old Bailey heard.

Ms Nessa, who taught a year one class at Rushey Green Primary School in Catford, was found nearly 24 hours later near a community centre in the park.

Days later, Selamaj, from Eastbourne in East Sussex, was arrested in the seaside town. After pleading guilty to murder, he refused to attend court for his sentence.

Mr Justice Sweeney described the "savage" attack as sexually-motivated.
