Flats proposal for listed pub submitted

Mr Matthew Gledhill is seeking listed building consent to convert the upper floors of former hotel space at The Old Cock, which is in Old Cock Yard in Halifax town centre, into seven apartments and five bedsits

The host building, the Old Cock Inn, which is a Grade II-listed public house dating from the 17th century, says a supporting statement by agents WHp ARCHITECTURE was submitted with the application to Calderdale Council.

Development will ensure the scale of the building will not be altered by the plans and its appearance will be unchanged, says the statement.

Surviving 17th century interior features will be preserved and incorporated into the proposed layouts without modification.

Although it is planned for uPVC windows to replace the current wooden ones, they will effectively be replicated, including sash horns.

The statement says extensive subsequent alterations and extensions have, to a large extent, concealed the form of the original building.

The busy inn, which has a beer festival planned for August among other events, is located off Corn

Market which forms the western boundary of the Victorian town centre and is close to Halifax Borough Market which gives traditional character to the area.
