Four arrested after drugs swoop on Tyneside homes

Early-morning raids on Wednesday saw police descend on two properties - in Wallsend and North Shields respectively - and execute search warrants, during which officers discovered substances thought to be drugs

One took place in Murray Road in Wallsend, with the second, simultaneous, operation, taking place in Sibthorpe Street in North Shields.

In Wallsend, police said a man, 31, and a woman, 28, had been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

The police said "a large amount of a substance believed to be amphetamine" and items including mobile phones were seized.

In North Shields, two women, 48 and 47, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

There, police said a quantity of "white powder" was recovered. All four people remain in police custody.

Chief Inspector Sally Pallace, community policing boss in North Tyneside, thanked the community for providing information about illegal drug supply .
