The Irish singer-songwriter has hit out at artists for treating this year like an extended holiday and says now is the time to drop more tunes than ever to help their fans get through the pandemic.

Dermot, currently climbing the Top10 with his Meduza collab Paradise, told me: "I am a musician and I make songs that hopefully make people feel better or give people a different perspective, so I see it as almost a responsibility to keep doing it.

"If you're a musician in these times and you hide away, I get that it's hard and that's fine, but your music could make a difference.

"If my job when things are normal is to give people comfort and solace then now is the time to do my job and it's not when everything is perfect! I do give myself credit in terms of not just accepting the slowdown and the break. I am determined to keep going."
