Gazza's gear up for auction 25 years later...

On June 18, 1996, England beat the Netherlands 4-1 at Wembley, with two Geordies in the side - Alan Shearer who scored twice and Paul Gascoigne - and went on to reach the semi-finals.

Now the shorts and socks worn by Gazza during the Netherlands match are to be auctioned.

They will be sold together with two of his spare Adidas Predator football boots with embroidered "Gazza" tongue, with a combined estimate of £800-£1,200.

At the time Gazza's social life included his celebrity friends broadcaster Danny Baker and DJ Chris Evans.

The items were initially bought at a charity auction and are being sold with a hand-written note from Danny Baker authenticating the boots, shorts and socks stating: "I confirm that these shorts, socks and spare boots were give [sic] to me by Paul Gascoigne directly after England's 4-1 victory over Holland at Euro 96. Socks and shorts as worn, unwashed!"

The reverse of the note shows a photograph of Paul Gascoigne, Danny Baker and Chris Evans.

The sale is being held by Catherine Southon auctioneers of Bromley in Kent on June 9.
