Examiner Sport revealed in January that Wakefield were preparing a move for Russell as part of their 2025 planning

Russell is off-contract at the end of the season, meaning he is essentially free to sign a deal with rival clubs come May 1.

He made his professional debut for the Giants in 2018 and has remained at the club ever since, going on to make 84 Super League appearances for the club.

But Watson appeared to indicate that Russell's time at the club could be coming to an end as he discussed his future.

"Olly will make the best decision for Olly," Watson told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I think Olly has come to a decision but it is for him to announce that when he wants to announce it.

"We love him here, he's been a really big part of our squad for the last few years. Since I came in here, he's played a hell of a lot of games and shown what he's all about.

"I'm really pleased for Olly. It's a frustrating one because Olly isn't playing at this moment in time.

"He'll be frustrated with me because I select the team but I wish Olly nothing but the best .
