Gladiators too strong for Eagles

The Gladiators have only lost two games all season, both to London Lions, while the Eagles roster by comparison was severely depleted for both weekend games

Katie Nolan, Jada Dapaa, Courtney Clasen and Princess Adeogun were all unavailable through injury.

The Seriös Group Eagles had been showing real signs of improvement in recent weeks, but the weekend's results have now left them looking over their shoulders at the chasing pack in the play-off race - rather than looking up to see if they could improve on their current sixth place standing in the Women's British Basketball League.

Newcastle have three very winnable games left on their fixture list at home to Oaklands and Manchester with a trip to Cardiff in between.

They will need to be at their best against all three to secure the wins needed to confirm their play-off place.

On Sunday, Matt Newby's side were restricted from the first tip by Caledonia and just didn't have the firepower to respond.

An opening 8-0 start from the Gladiators immediately put the Eagles on the back foot.

Captain Marina Fernandez hit five personal on her way to a top-scoring 18 points for her side to get Newcastle on the board, but Gladiators hit back immediately and a further 18-4 run gave them total command of the game and a 30-17 lead as they went into the second period.
