Officers swooped after reports of a man walking across a fell in the buff.

He was arrested on suspicion of outraging public decency and taken into custody, then released without charge.

Police then announced they would be carrying out extra patrols in the area of Waldridge Fell, near Chesterle-Street, Co Durham.

Now members of Three Rivers Outdoor Club - which organises naked swimming and rambling events in the north east - have moaned the force's Facebook post about the incident wrongly suggested public nudity was illegal.
