HELP FOR HEROES CAFE Ex-Armed Forces and family members invited to drop in for a brew at new Help for Heroes café in Stirling. These cafes enable local Armed Forces community to come together, meet new people and find out what support is available from Help for Heroes. Charity is determined to get more people across Stirling help they need, whenever or wherever they served in military. Graham, co-founder of Scottish Labour Party and founding president of SNP, celebrated in two-day event hosted by The Smith 'Don Roberto and Scotland: International Perspectives', weekend (May 11 and 12) featuring talks, dinner, and visits to Gartmore, former Graham family seat, and optional visit to island of Inchmahome in Lake of Menteith where Graham and his wife Gabriela are buried. Speakers include novelist James Robertson, playwright Chris Dolan and Professor Alan Riach, Professor of Scottish Literature at Glasgow University. STIRLING LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY Next meeting is in The Smith Museum on Thursday April 25 at 7.30pm. Doors open 7pm. Members free, visitors £3. Lecture by Dr Emma McLeod and titled 'As if the days of Braxfield had come back' - 1790s precedents and the state trials after the 1820 Radical War. STIRLING FOLK CLUB Guests at Stirling Folk Club on Monday, April 22, are 'Raging Twilight'. Blending the sounds of guitars, keyboards, washboards, mandolin, cat litter, harmonica and resonator, this fourpiece band combines blues and country, rock and soul, folk and roots. They tell stories, woven into song: tales of the dark side, of hope, of poverty, of despair; tales of ordinary lives, of not giving in, of the magnet of the future and the draw of the past. It's the stuff of life, and you can witness it at Stirling Rugby Club on Causewayhead Road on Monday at 7.30pm. Tickets at door £14, students £5 and under 14s free.
