Howe shields Dummett but accepts 'it's probably a penalty'

The 1-1 draw keeps United in eighth place but the race for Europe remains wide open ahead of Saturday's visit to Fulham.

Howe, who watched a Dan Burn strike get disallowed, looked back on the game and said: "I felt the second goal was important, we were close to getting it until VAR stopped that one.

"Against any team you want the comfort of the second goal but unfortunately we didn't get it."

When asked about the 88th-minute penalty award, Howe said: "It's always difficult when you come on late in games, especially if you're winning.

"Being a defender myself, they're always difficult moments because you want to keep your concentration, you want to help your team.

"Paul has been first-class since I've been here.

"He's a really genuine, honest lad.

It's one of those moments that's gone against us, but I can't fault the players, genuinely."
